Opposition leaders meet President, want farm laws withdrawn

A high-level delegation of Opposition leaders today met President Ram Nath Kovind and backed the demand of farmers’ unions to repeal the three agriculture laws terming them retrograde and anti-democratic.

The delegation comprised NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja and DMK’s TKS Elangovan.

Speaking after the meeting, Rahul said the farmers were not going to end their agitation until the government agreed to rescind the new laws.

“We raised a couple of issues, including the manner in which these laws were passed in Parliament without any discussion with the Opposition,” he said. — TNS
