A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking quashing the November 13 order issued by Central Government extending the tenure of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra

Petitioner Common Cause has also sought a direction to the Centre to appoint an ED Director in a transparent manner and strictly in accordance with the mandate of Section 25 of the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003.

According to the petitioner, Mishra was appointed ED Director on November 19, 2018, for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever was earlier and the said two-year tenure ended on November 18, 2020. But now his tenure has been extended by a year.
