Amid controversy over a letter written by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy to CJI SA Bobde levelling certain allegations against Justice NV Ramana, a PIL was filed on Monday in the Supreme Court demanding action against him for his anti-judiciary utterances.

Edit: Open letter to CJI

Filed by advocate Sunil Kumar Singh, the PIL sought a direction to restrain Reddy and his subordinates from holding such press briefings against judges.

The petitioner wanted the top court to issue a show-cause notice to Reddy asking him to explain why suitable action should not be taken against him. Maintaining that people’s confidence in judiciary was at stake, Singh has demanded urgent hearing of the matter. — TNS
