Plan rolled out for taps in every household

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that the Union Government had launched Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to enable every household, as well as public institution to have functional tap connections. The public institutions include schools, anganwari centres, health centres, gram panchyat buildings, community bathrooms and toilets in villages. The estimated outlay for the mission is Rs 3.6 lakh crore out of which the Central share is Rs 2.08 lakh crore. The programme is planned to be implemented in five years. pti

Allot UT’s surplus revenue to Punjab, Haryana: MP

SAD Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Naresh Gujral on Monday urged the Centre to distribute the surplus revenue of the UT of Chandigarh between Punjab and Haryana as it is their state capital. Speaking amid the debate on proposals of the Union Budget 2020-21 in Rajya Sabha, Gujral pitched against the current practice of diversion of the surplus revenue to Consolidated Fund of India. He sought the Centre’s intervention for early settlement of Punjab’s Rs 31,000 crore debt on account of purchase of food grain by the state government. Tns
