PM Modi makes an outreach seeking cooperation in Jal Jeevan Mission

Making a push for effective and speedy implementation of Centre’s flagship Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made an outreach to all Sarpanches and Gram Pradhans of the country seeking their cooperation in this regard.

The JJM aims to connect every rural household with piped water connection by 2024.

In a letter to the Sarpanches and elected village heads last Tuesday, he impressed upon them that the JJM’s effective implementation could be fully realized with their and village community’s cooperation.

Besides addressing water supply issues, the mission would help to tackle water-borne diseases like cholera, dysentery, diarrhoea, encephalitis, typhoid, etc, Modi said.

Also, when the livestock is provided with safe and clean water, it not only improves their health but plays a critical role in improving their productivity, thus enhancing the income of families.

He appealed to people and Gram Panchayats to make Jal Jeevan Mission a people’s movement.

In his letter, Modi highlighted that scarcity of water adversely affects women and children and urged them to take a lead in the cause of water management.

He said JJM is also a means to generate employment in rural areas.

It has been given priority under the ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojna’ meant for the migrant workers who have returned home due to the Corona Virus.
