Prelim report: Glitch in refrigeration unit did it

-A technical glitch in refrigeration unit attached to two styrene tanks caused the vapour leak, a district official said quoting a preliminary report.

-Styrene monomer, normally in liquid state, is safe below 20 degrees Celsius. But because of the malfunctioning, the chemical started gasifying.

-The temperature in the chemical storage tank rose above the safety level of 20 degrees, leading to gasification and evaporation of styrene. PTI
