New Delhi, September 29
The National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday called upon the Centre and states to protect the rights of persons engaged in manual scavenging or hazardous cleaning.
It issued an advisory to the Centre and the state governments to fix responsibility and accountability of local authority and contractor/employer, jointly and severally in case of any death that occur due to manual scavenging. The advisory has been addressed to secretaries of Union Ministries concerned, chief secretaries of state governments and administrators of UTs. — TNS
