R-Day violence: Supreme Court junks plea on judicial probe

New Delhi, February 3

The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a PIL seeking a probe by a judicial inquiry commission into the Republic Day violence during farmers’ tractor rally in the national Capital.

“We are sure the government is inquiring into it and taking appropriate action….The PM in his statement has said the law will take its own course,” a Bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said.

As the petitioners’ counsel said the probe shouldn’t be one-sided, the CJI said, “Obviously... what does an investigation mean? Both sides will be investigated.” — TNS
