Rajasthan reports 269 COVID-19 cases; infection tally breaches 9,000

Rajasthan reported 269 new coronavirus cases, officials said---a development that takes the state’s COVID-19 count to 9,100.

Pali (52), Bharatpur (44), Jaipur (36), Jodhpur (32), Baran (27), Sikar (12), Kota (11), Udaipur (10), Churu (7), Ajmer (7), Alwar (6), Jhunjhunu (6),  Jhalawar (5),  Sirohi (5), Dungarpur (3), Dausa (2), Bhilwara (2), Rajsamand (1) and Tonk (1) all reported new cases, the state’s evening health bulletin said.

Most of the new cases are migrants who came back to the state from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Some 2,543 migrants have tested positive since May 1. 

The state also reported five more deaths, taking the death toll to 199 on Monday.  Jaipur reported three deaths,Bikaner and Baran each reported one, the bulletin said.  

Rajasthan Medical and Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma said the state’s recovery rate of 67.26 per cent. The state’s death rate currently stands at 2.2 per cent. 

Some 6,213 patients have been recovered, 5,569 of whom have been released from hospitals.

Jaipur alone has 22 per cent of the state’s confirmed cases, and accounts for nearly half of the state’s 199 deaths.

The breakup of Rajasthan’s death toll is as follows: Jaipur (94), Jodhpur (19), Kota (16), Nagaur (8), Ajmer (7),  Pali (7),  Sikar (5), Bharatpur (4), Chittorgarh (4), Bikaner (4) Sirohi (3), Karauli (3),  Alwar (2),  Jalore (2), Banswara (2),  Bhilwara (2),  Churu (1),  Rajsamand (1), Udaipur (1), Pratapgarh (1), Sawaimadhopur (1), Jhunjhunu (1), Dausa (1), Baran (1) and Tonk (1), 8 death of patients hailing from neighbouring state also included in the toll.

Meanwhile, the state looks at easing lockdown restrictions imposed since March 25. Jaipur has only 23 containment zones with curfew and other restrictions.
