Rashtriya Sikh Sangat to approach UN

Voicing concern over the attack on Gurdwara Nankana Sahib by a mob in Pakistan on Friday, the RSS-backed Rashtriya Sikh Sangat has decided to take up the matter with the United Nations.

It has asked Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to prevent occurrence of such incidents and demanded action against the culprits.

Condemning the partisan role of the police, the sangat said it would also organise a protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in India.

“The insult to the Sikhs in Pakistan and their holiest shrine has taken place under the watch of authorities. The UN will be approached in the matter through its office in Delhi, and its intervention will be sought,” said sangat’s national president Gurcharan Singh Gill.

“The gurdwara holds the same supreme religious and spiritual value among the Sikhs globally as Mecca-Medina do for Muslims, and Rome for Christians,” said Gill, adding that a violent demonstration by any group outside such a holy place was a matter of deep concern.

“Minorities are already being compelled to flee from Pakistan on a large scale due to persecution. If such incidents are not stopped by the Government of Pakistan, the country’s image will be further tarnished internationally,” Gill said.
