A Pakistani fishing boat with six crew members and 77 kg of heroin worth Rs 400 crore was seized in Indian waters off Gujarat coast on Monday.
In a joint operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) intercepted the boat, named ‘Al Hussaini’, six nautical miles inside Indian waters.
The Coast Guard staff aboard a ship sighted the suspiciously moving boat. On being challenged, the boat crew tried to flee, but were outmanoeuvred and forced to surrender. The boat was rummaged during which the contraband was found kept in five bags.
The boat, which is registered at Karachi, was being brought to Jakhau harbour in Gujarat for further joint investigation by all agencies, said officials. This is the second joint operation of the ICG and the ATS-Gujarat within three months wherein Rs 550 crore worth of heroin has been seized.
