The Opposition on Sunday rejected a government invitation to discuss the Rajya Sabha stalemate with leaders of four parties whose MPs have been suspended, saying the government, if sincere about breaking the logjam, would have invited the entire Opposition and not just a few parties.

Responding to a letter by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi for a meeting on Monday, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the invitation should have gone to all Opposition parties which stood united on the demand to revoke the suspension of 12 members.

CPM’s Elamaram Karim wrote to Joshi declining the invite, calling the “select invitations” unfortunate. TMC leader Derek O’Brien tweeted: “This is a failed stunt. The Opposition is clear — first revoke arbitrary suspensions.”
