Uddhav Thackeray

Pune, January 22

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said whether the fire at the Serum Institute of India (SII) was an accident or sabotage would be known after officials concluded their probe. Reiterating that there was no damage to the Covishield vaccine production, Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the SII, said facilities involved in the production of Rotavirus and BCG vaccines had been damaged. He put the financial loss at Rs 1,000 crore.

The Manjari facility is where the Covishield vaccine, used in the nationwide inoculation drive against the pandemic, is made. The building where the fire broke out is 1 km from the Covishield vaccine manufacturing unit. — PTI
