New Delhi, January 30
Expressing displeasure over senior lawyers failing to reach consensus over the legal issues relating to gender discrimination in various religious practices, including those at Sabarimala Temple, the Supreme Court on Thursday said it would fix the timeline and other modalities for hearing by a nine-judge Constitution Bench on February 3.
“We are little disappointed as you could not arrive at a consensus. Now a nine-judge Bench will go through the questions submitted by some of you (advocates) and try to crystallize the issues on February 3 and would decide on schedule and other modalities,” a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said after senior advocate V Giri mentioned the matter. — TNS
