More warships to ferry oxygen

The Indian Navy has now pressed into service seven warships to ferry liquid oxygen and medical supplies from various countries. Another warship will be ready to leave by Monday.

The Navy sailed out three more warships — INS Kochi, INS Trikand and INS Tabar — today to pick up liquid medical oxygen-filled cryogenic containers and associated medical equipment from various countries. Already, two warships INS Kolkatta and INS Talwar were deployed in the Persian Gulf and pulled out on April 30. INS Talwar picked up liquid oxygen filed tanks from Manama, Bahrain, and is now sailing towards Mumbai. INS Kolkatta has been tasked to Doha, Qatar, for embarking medical supplies and will subsequently head to Kuwait for liquid oxygen tanks.

Meanwhile Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the efforts by the MoD and the armed forces to fight Covid-19. The MoD said approximately 600 additional doctors were being mobilised. The Navy had deployed 200 nursing assistants in various hospitals. — TNS
