On the first day of her official visit to the US, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met leaders of major global corporations to discuss investment opportunities in India under the Rs 6 lakh crore National Monetisation Pipeline (NPC).
In her meeting with senior corporate officials of three US MNCs, Sitharaman highlighted private sector investment opportunities for new infrastructure creation as well as brown-field infrastructure assets under NMP, the minister said in social media posts.
The minister met American Tower Corporation VP Edmund DiSanto in Boston and discussed the company’s investment plans in India. Arriving in the city the previous night, she attended a dinner hosted by former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers which was attended by experts in economics, public policy, finance and development issues.
Senior VP of ExxonMobil John Ardill called on the minister and shared the company’s keenness on playing an active role in raising the share of natural gas in India’s overall energy mix of India. The company is also looking forward to contribute towards decarbonising the energy system as well as use of hydrogen as a substitute.
The Minister also interacted with senior officials of Bain Capital, a deep-pocket investment company, who appreciated the friendly business atmosphere in India and mentioned that they are upbeat about investment in India. Sitharaman spoke about exploring opportunities in Gift City, Ahmedabad, and other opportunities in infrastructure in India. (EOM)
