SMS service partially back in J$K

The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have partially restored SMS service with people on Tuesday starting to receive “One-ime Passwords (OTPs)” for online businesses. “People would not be allowed to send any messages from their mobiles,” officials said.
“It is a relief. Traders were unable to carry out bank transactions and students could not fill online applications for various exams,” said Majid Hussain. Phone connectivity and Internet services were blocked on August 5 after abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J&K into two Union Territories.
Mobile phones in Kashmir began to ring after a gap of 72 days on October 14, but the SMS service was halted within hours. “Over 25 lakh pre-paid mobile phones and Internet services, including WhatsApp, remain deactivated for now,” the officials said.
