New Delhi, February 18
South Asia’s first Biosafety level-3 (BSL-3) containment mobile laboratory was on Friday inaugurated in Nasik district of Maharashtra augmenting Indian capacities at quick detection of highly infectious pathogens.
The laboratory has been set up to investigate newly emerging viral infections of lethal potential to humans. Bharati Pawar, MoS (Health), said the lab was a significant value addition to the government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. It is significant in the wake of outbreaks of pathogens like nipah, zika and Covid-19.
