Theni (TN): In a surprise gift, as many as 144 persons in home quarantine for coronavirus in this district got a bamboo basket full of protein-rich fruits from health officials to encourage them to stay indoors and eat healthy food to beat the contagion. Several teams of village health workers and senior health workers visited all district blocks where the quarantined people live and delivered the fruit gift hamper, deputy health director, Theni district, T Varadarajan said. The gift hampers had fruits including grapes, red banana known as ‘chevvalai’ in Tamil, apple, multi-vitamin pills, a hand sanitiser and a mask. PTI
10-month-old baby tests positive for covid
Mangaluru: A 10-month-old baby from a village in Dakshina Kannada district has tested positive for Covid-19, health officials said. The baby was admitted to a private hospital at Derlakatte here on March 23 with high fever and acute respiratory illness. The throat swab was sent to the lab for testing the next day and it tested positive, a release from district health officer Ramachandra Bayari said here on Friday. The baby was now in stable condition, it said. The process of tracing the source of contract was on, the release said. PTI
UP priest ensures ‘live’ darshan of deity to devotees
Sambhal (UP): A priest at an 800-year-old temple in Sambhal district has devised a novel plan to ensure a “proper darshan” of the deity to devotees through WhatsApp. Mahant Murali Singh of Siddhpeeth Chamunda Devi Temple in Hallu Sarai said since the doors of the temple were closed due to the lockdown to contain the spread of the new coronavirus, it became difficult to allow devotees at the temple for the Navratri festival. Devotees are provided darshan for 20 to 30 seconds regularly at their homes, he added. PTI
