New Delhi, July 31
Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday reminded Congress MPs about the impending Assembly elections in four states and said they must sustain the momentum and goodwill that had been generated for the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections.
While Assembly polls are slated to take place in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand during the next six months, poll for electing the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is also due.
“We must not become complacent and over-confident. The ‘mahaul’ (prevailing conditions) does favour us, but we have to work unitedly with a sense of purpose. I dare say that if we perform well, reflecting the trend that we witnessed in the Lok Sabha elections, national politics will undergo a transformation”, the Congress leader said.
Congress put up an impressive show in the Lok Sabha elections, improving its seat share to 99 from 52 in 2019. The INDIA bloc, led by Congress, won 30 of 40 seats in Maharashtra and 43 of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP is in power in both these states, but failed to do well in the General Election.
Sonia Gandhi said education has been amongst the worst casualties in the past years. Instead of taking the nation forward, the entire educational system is looking flawed and manipulated under the Modi regime, she said.
