Tiruchirappalli: Impressed with welfare schemes, a 50-year old farmer, P Sankar, has built a temple for PM Narendra Modi on his farm in sleepy Erakudi village about 63 km from here . “I received Rs2,000 (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi) scheme for farmers, gas (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana) and toilet (Individual Household Latrine Scheme) facilities,” he said. Built at a cost of Rs1.2 lakh, the 8 x 8 ft tiled roof temple has a bust of the PM at the centre. IANS

MP swachhata drive to ‘shame’ officials

Gwalior: The administration here in Madhya Pradesh, which has some of the cleanest cities like Indore, has taken a strict stand and will “name and shame” officials found not up to their mark in maintaining cleanliness in their zone. In Gwalior, it has been decided that notices will be pasted outside the homes of officials who do not discharge their responsibilities properly. IANS

Tejas to promote UP’s ‘One Dist, One Product’

Lucknow: The UP Government will promote its One District, One Product scheme in the first semi-high speed train Tejas Express. Chief Regional Manager Ashwini Srivastava said: “The scheme will be promoted in five coaches of Tejas starting Christmas.” Lucknow’s Chikankari and Zardozi, Kannauj’s perfume, Kanpur’s leather, Chitrakoot’s wooden toys, Bulandshahr’s ceremic products, Saharanpur woodwork among others work will be promoted. Raveena, Farah booked for hurting religious sentiments

Amritsar: The Amritsar-Rural police have booked Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, producer-director Farah Khan and comedienne Bharti Singh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of a community during a show. Vikram Jeet Duggal, SSP, said a case under Section 295-A of the IPC had been registered at the Ajnala police station following a complaint along with the ‘video footage’ of the show. tns

Uttarkashi author killed in Sri Lanka road accident

Colombo: Renowned Hindi author Ganga Prasad Vimal and his two family members were killed in a road accident in Kurundugahahathapma in southern Sri Lanka, police said on Wednesday. The 80-year-old was travelling along with his family in a van, which crashed into a container truck. Born in 1939 in Uttarkashi, Vimal held key responsibilities at JNU and Delhi University. PTI
