Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) on Sunday put to rest all speculations about his hanging the boots and handing over power to his son and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Working President KT Rama Rao.

Addressing his party leadership in the city, KCR said he had no intentions of “taking political sanyasis” and would continue to be the chief minister as TRS was elected to power in his name.

He was addressing the TRS State Executive Committee meeting at Telangana Bhavan, which is the party headquarters in the upmarket area close to KBR Park. In over two-and-half hours of discourse with the party leadership KCR addressed all issues ranging from party membership, the constitution of the party committees from village level to the state level, etc.

The party’s membership drive will commence from February 12, while the party’s annual meeting has been scheduled for April 27 when the party President will also be elected. For the membership drive, KCR told his party leaders that BJP was fast filling up the vacuum caused by the marginalisation of the Congress party in the state, so TRS increase its membership from the current 60 lakhs. Every MLA has been asked for an enrolment of at least 50,000 members.

Party sources said KCR also discussed the upcoming elections for two MLC Graduates Constituencies, Nagarjunagar by-poll and also municipal elections to around six Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

He is said to have clarified that the names of candidates for the posts of the GHMC Mayor and the Deputy Mayor will be announced in a sealed cover on the day of election. He instructed the TRS corporators and ex-officio members to support the candidates announced by the party leadership.
