New Delhi, March 12

Come April 1, the Supreme Court will accept petitions and affidavits only on A4 size paper sheets printed on both sides.

The switch over from legal size paper sheets to A4 size paper sheets has been made with a view to check environmental degradation and bring uniformity in the use of paper sheets in its day-to-day work of the top court.

At present, legal size paper sheets, bigger than A4 size paper sheets, are used in courts and only one side of the paper is used for printing. Environmentally conscious judges and lawyers had been raising voice against waste of paper.

“It is notified for the information of all concerned that the competent authority has been pleased to direct that: With a view to bring uniformity about use of paper and printing thereon and to minimise consumption of paper and consequently to save the environment, superior quality A4 size paper…,” stated a circular dated March 5 uploaded on the top court’s website on Thursday. — TNS
