Three others travelling in the car had a miraculous escape with minor injuries. All five occupants of the car belonged to one family. The accident took place close to Mallisala village under Jaggampeta police station of the district.

Those who escaped with minor injuries have been identified as Veerni Ramadevi, Mannem Bhanu and Mannem Adithya.

Adnan Nayeem Asmi, the East Godavari SP, said that the family was travelling from Gokavaram town in East Godavari to Visakhapatnam. The injured have been admitted to a hospital by a police team that rushed to the spot after hearing about the accident.

It is yet not clear as to how the accident took place, one theory is that the driver fell asleep, while another theory is that the driver lost control. Once the car hit the pole, the wires snapped and fell on the car causing a short circuit and engulfing the car in flames within no time. The front seat passengers had seat belts on and could not move, police said.
