New Delhi, October 7

The UK said that India has been added to the this list of countries and territories with approved proof of vaccination, meaning there will be no mandatory quarantine period for those fully vaccinated.

The UK government announced the changes on its website on Thursday, saying the changes will ring in from 4 am on October 11. Those arriving in UK before that date will be required to follow the rules for people who are not fully vaccinated.

Those arriving after October 11 can use a vaccine certificate to prove vaccination status. The person must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival in England. The day a person had taken a final dose of vaccine does not count as one of the 14 days.

AstraZeneca ( covidshield), Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna and Janssen are the vaccines accepted in the UK. British Ambassador to India Alex Ellis tweeted a video message on the development.

The matter had been dragging for more than one month as India and the UK were not able to reach a protocol on vaccine certificates. After UK had imposed a ten-day quarantine for even those fully vaccinated, India had retaliated in same measure. India pulled its hockey team out of a multi-nation tournament in the UK scheduled in 2022, citing Covid restrictions.
