Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday distributed compensation cheques for Rs 4 lakh each to three persons in Jaunpur who died of rain and hailstorm-related reasons. They are among 28 such victims who lost their lives across the state in 24 hours due to rain, lightening and related reasons.

He also handed over compensatory cheques to 51 farmers in Jaunpur who suffered loss of their standing rabi crop.

Speaking at a function at the Karanjkala block, Yogi assured compensation within a week for all those who lost their lives or crops across the state.

Meanwhile, Mazdoor Kisan Manch president SR Darapuri alleged that the state government had issued a toll free number which farmers had to dial within 72 hours to inform about their loss for compensation. “How can the government expect the traumatised farmers to assess their loss and inform the administration within 72 hours?” he asked.
