Vij raids police station, orders suspension of SI

A day after he assumed office, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij conducted a surprise raid at a city police station and ordered the suspension of Sub-Inspector Nirmala and a computer operator after they were found absent from duty.

He was at the police station for more than two hours, checking files and case records. Vij was on his way to Delhi on Saturday when he suddenly decided to check the functioning of the Panipat police station, where he reportedly found the SHO, munshi, computer operator and other staff members absent.The minister checked police clearance certificates and pendency of passport verification cases. He is also learnt to have cross-verified FIRs, making calls to complainants.

Sumit Kumar, SP, reached the police station 15 minutes after the minister’s arrival. So did MLA Mahipal Dhanda. The SP said the minister checked records and ordered that action be initiated against SI Nirmala for being absent from duty. “Most of the staff was on duty for the HTET examination and the Nirankari Sant Samagam in Samalkha area,” he said.

Vij told The Tribune that a complaint from Israna village was found pending for 10 days. The SP had been told to look into the matter.
