New Delhi, October 19
In a shocking rerun of the 2012 sexual assault case that triggered a national outrage and forced criminal law amendments, a 38-year-old Delhi woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped for two days in Ghaziabad.
Iron rods were allegedly inserted in her private parts. She was found lying on the road, all tied up in a jute sack.
The woman from Nand Nagri, Delhi, who had visited Ghaziabad to attend a birthday party, was abducted and gangraped by five men in Ghaziabad. Four accused have been arrested. The rape survivor is admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Delhi.
Doctors said her condition was stable and although no internal injury was found yet, there were signs of sexual assault and a “foreign object” had been found in her body.
According to the UP Police, on October 18, they received information that a woman was lying near Ashram Road, Nandgram, Ghaziabad, from where she was shifted to a hospital, adding that she had come to Nandgram to visit her brother.
“After her brother dropped her off, five persons, who were known to her, took her away and gangraped her. An FIR has been registered and four persons nabbed. It is being said that they have a property dispute and the matter is sub judice. We are taking all necessary action,” Nipun Agarwal, SP, City (Ghaziabad), said.
Following the incident, Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the SSP, Ghaziabad.
According to the notice, the victim had gone to Ghaziabad to participate in her brother’s birthday celebrations on October 16, and on her return, was kidnapped by four persons in a Scorpio car while she was waiting for an auto. They took her to an unknown location, where one more person was present.
“They brutally gangraped her and continued to rape and torture her for two days. They even inserted an iron rod inside her private parts. Thereafter, they hid her in a jute bag, tied up her arms and legs and threw her on a road. The woman was found in a serious condition in a pool of blood, with the iron rod still inside her. The woman is admitted to a hospital in Delhi in a critical condition,” the DCW notice read.
The DCW chief has asked the police to provide a copy of the FIR, details of the accused arrested and a detailed action-taken report by October 21.
