Justice Indu Malhotra—who delivered her famous dissenting verdict in Sabarimala Temple entry case—is all set to demit office on Thursday.

“I will miss sitting with you sister Indu. I really enjoyed it. You are an icon,” Justice Chandrachud told Justice Malhotra on Wednesday.

“I will miss sitting with you too,” she responded as the two judges sat together for the last time as a part of the same Bench.

As part of a tradition followed in the Supreme Court, a judge demitting office shares the Bench with the Chief Justice of India on his/her last day in office where Attorney General, Solicitor General, leaders and senior members of the bar make short formal speeches.

Appointed on April 27, 2018, Justice Malhotra became the first woman from the bar to be elevated directly as a judge of the Supreme Court. She is the seventh woman judge of the Supreme Court.
