Third generation Scindia family member and former Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia is now a BJP member, but not everyone in the party, especially those from his bastion Guna/Gwalior-Chambal “sambhag”, seem ecstatic over the big development.
While fears of those who may be expected to “sacrifice” ambitions to accommodate Scindia’s men cannot be discounted, senior leaders of the Guna-Gwalior-Chambal region too are concerned over their political future.
“What about our cadres who have been with the BJP through thick and thin,” says a BJP leader having an aspiration of getting a nomination from a constituency represented by one of Scindia’s men who recently resigned.
Many among Scindia supporters are also not happy over future prospects. “In the BJP, he will also lose his space and identity. See what happened to his own aunt (Vasundhara Raje) and Gandhi family (Maneka and Varun Gandhi),” they say. References are also being made to political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor’s latest tweet to stress the futility of Jyotiraditya joining the BJP
“Amazing that those who usually find fault with Gandhis leading the Congress because of their surname are finding a Scindia leaving INC as big jolt for the party! Fact is but for his surname even JM Scindia has little to show as a mass leader, political organiser or administrator,” Kishor tweeted today.
There has also been a talk about Jyotiraditya’s dynastic roots and alleged “betrayal” of Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, a BJP icon, by his family during the revolt of 1857.
