The strikes began around 2 am, when JF-17 fighter jets launched a barrage of at least eight Chinese-origin LS-6 precision-guided bombs on the remote settlement.
Witnesses described scenes of devastation, with bodies lying across the rubble-strewn streets and survivors digging through collapsed homes with bare hands.
“Entire families have been wiped out. Most of the victims are women and children who had no chance of escaping,” a source said, describing the carnage.
The Tirah Valley, near the Afghan border, has long been a conflict zone where Pakistani forces have carried out repeated offensives against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other armed groups. But the civilian toll from such operations has drawn sharp criticism from human rights organisations in the past.
The Pakistani military is yet to issue an official statement on the strikes.
