16 booked for duping people of Rs 3.77 crore

The Patiala police have registered a case against 16 persons for duping several people of Rs 3.77 crore.

The complaint has been registered after the complaint of Gagandeep Singh, of village Seona of Patiala, and others of the anti-chit-fund action committee, Malerkotla. The police said the complainant and a number of people had invested money in three companies run by the accused near Gurdwara Dukhniwaran here in 2016. They said the accused were supposed to return them the deposited amount along with interest by the maturity date but they did not do so and closed the office. They said the firm was later found to be working in various parts of the state and similar cases of cheating were registered against the accused. They said the accused have duped various people of Rs3.77 crore.

Those named in the FIR, include Sukhchain Singh and his wife Sarabjit Kaur, Sukhwinder Singh and his wife Paramjit Kaur, Gurwinder Singh, Jugraj Singh, Mahavir Singh, Raj Kumar, Sandeep Puri, Gursewak Singh, Navinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Baljit Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Surjeet Singh and Hardeep Singh, all of Ferozepur. The police have registered the case under Sections 420, 120-B of the IPC and Section 4 of Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banned) Act. —TNS
