19,247 cases settled at National Lok Adalat in Patiala

The National Lok Adalat, covering all categories of cases except non-compoundable criminal matters, was organised across the district today under the supervision of Harinder Sidhu, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

As many as 47 benches were constituted in the district, including 28 in Patiala, six in Rajpura, five in Nabha and six in Samana. A special bench was set up in the Revenue Court, Patiala, for settlement of mutation and partition cases, while another was formed at the Women Cell, Patiala, to resolve matrimonial disputes through mutual settlement before registration.

In all, 36,230 cases were taken up, of which 19,247 were amicably settled through compromise, involving a settlement amount of ?77.78 crore. A key highlight was the settlement of 117 family disputes and cheque bounce cases, involving a settlement amount of ?1.7 crore.
