With 218 new Covid cases, the city crossed the 10,000 mark today. The district tally, as of now, stands at 10,180 cases. Of the 218 fresh cases, the city recorded 87 cases, Rajpura 37, Bhadson 22, Harpalpur 14, Shutrana five, Nabha five, Kallon Majra 13, Kauli 29 and Dudhan Sadhan one.
Ironically, only 24 cases of the total 218 were detected during contact tracing, while 194 were reported from containment zones and hospital OPDs.
The Patiala Civil Surgeon, Dr Harish Malhotra, informed that four patients succumbed to Covid 19 during the past 24 hours taking the death count to 279.
Those who succumbed to Covid include, a 60-year-old woman of Dhiru Ki Majri, who died at Government Rajindra Hospital, a 52-year-old woman of Urban Estate, who was suffering from high sugar, a 60-year- old man, who had high blood sugar, and a 60-year-old woman, who was undergoing treatment at the PGIMER, Chandigarh.
“People should follow Covid guidelines. They must wear face masks and wash hands regularly. Secondly, people should come forward for testing for detection of infection at an early stage,” Dr Malhotra added.
