Fatehgarh Sahib, January 14
Davinder Singh, the brother of Punjabi singer Satwinder Singh Bugga, cremated his wife today, 22 days after her death.
A case under Sections 304, 323, 341, 506 and 34 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against Satwinder and his alleged accomplices Hajara Singh (resident of Mukaronpur) and Harwinder Singh (resident of Bibipur) for allegedly killing Davinder’s wife.
The deceased, Amarjit Kaur, had died on December 23, when the brothers got into a fight.
DSP Bassi Pathana Mohit Singla said that the police have launched a manhunt to nab the singer and his two accomplices.
In his statement to the police, Davinder Singh said that there was a property dispute between the brothers and a case was pending in court. He alleged that Satwinder and his two accomplices attacked him when he was in his fields.
When his domestic help informed his wife about him being attacked, she reached the spot. As a physical confrontation ensued, Satwinder pushed Amarjit Kaur and she fell on the ground, unconscious. She was rushed to PHC Khera, where the doctor on duty did not attend to her and referred her to Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital.
Davinder said that after being given first aid, Amarjit was referred to Government Hospital, Sector 32, in Chandigarh. He added that she died on the way to the hospital.
Demanding that a murder case be registered against his brother and his accomplices, Davinder refused to cremate Amarjit’s body in protest.
He said that the police had told him that the case would be registered only after a postmortem examination. Davinder also filed a petition in the High Court, which ordered postmortem on the body, to be conducted by a board of doctors. The police registered a case agains Satwinder and his accomplices after a postmortem was conducted, and Davinder cremated the body 22 days after death.
The DSP said that according to the postmortem report, the cause of Amarjit’s death was a head injury that she suffered antemortem.
He added that the viscera of the deceased has been sent for a chemical examination. He further said that the police are also investigating the allegations levelled against Dr Divjot Singh of PHC Khera, adding that the matter has been referred to the Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Surgeon for inquiry.
