3 Nihangs held for ‘assaulting’ 3 J&K pilgrims
The Fatehgarh Sahib police have arrested three Nihangs, who allegedly assaulted three pilgrims who had come from Jammu and Kashmir to pay obeisance at Roza Sharif.
The accused have been identified as Sunny Singh, a resident of Jasomajra village, Jobanpreet Singh, a resident of Harbans Pura, and Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Boothgarh Khanna village. The injured pilgrims have been admitted to Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib.
DSP Sukhnaz Singh said, in a complaint lodged with the police, Mudasir Ahmed Dar, one of the victims, said he, along with 45 pilgrims, had come from J&K by special a bus to pay obeisance at historical Roza Sharif. They were buying vegetables near a gurdwara, when three persons dressed as Nihangs approached them and without any provocation started abusing and attacking them.
One of accused allegedly attacked them with a sharp weapon, causing injuries to one of the pilgrims. He said one Shaukat Ahmed escaped, but the attackers followed him and beat him up badly. The DSP said the police reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported and the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital.
