Three youths died as the car they were travelling in plunged into a pond at Dittupur village near Bhadson here on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Hardeep Singh, a marine engineer; 26-year-old Inderjot Singh, an employee at the Verka Milk Plant; and 18-year-old Kamalpreet Singh, a Class-12 student.
On Thursday night, a group of five men from the village were travelling in a car. Due to dense fog, they lost sight of the road. One of the men got out of the car to guide the driver using torch light from his phone. However, due to poor visibility, the car veered off the road and plunged into the nearby pond. While one of the four occupants was rescued, the other three drowned.
The villagers tried to rescue the men, but to no avail. The car, along with the bodies, was fished out of the canal.
