The victims belonged to Scheduled Castes and were sons of daily-wage workers. They were said to be cousins.
After completing a diploma from Thapar University, Ramanpreet had decided to take admission in Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib. Ramanpreet, who had already enabled some household electronics items to work on voice command, was working on some more projects.
His inconsolable father Sucha Singh told
The Tribune: “I had planned to accompany him to the college for admission next month. He was very intelligent.” He said the police had not made any arrests so far. “The two suspects are residents of a nearby village. The police are showing laxity in arresting them. We will soon start a protest if the suspects are not arrested.”
Dalip Singh said his son Gursewak had worked as a labourer, but wanted to become a police officer and was preparing for an examination. He added, “Our kids were mowed down by drug peddlers, but no arrest has been made.”
Gursewak had cleared the written examination for the post of constable and was waiting for an appointment letter. His family members alleged that the suspects were associated with an MLA.
The police said they had registered a case under Section 279 and 304 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 15/61/85 of the NDPS Act against the car occupants, Harpreet Singh and Lovepreet Singh.
SSP Deepak Parik said, “The suspects will be arrested soon. Police teams are conducting raids to nab them.”
