52 rounded up in Fatehgarh Sahib as police crack down on drug peddlers

The police launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) to nab peddlers in Sirhind, Mandi Gobindgarh, Amloh, Bassi Pathana, Khamano towns.

The police, led by led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Subham Aggarwal and Superintendent of Police (SP, Investigation) Rakesh Yadav, raided known hotspots of drug sellers during the wee hours to carry out searches.

Addressing the media, the SSP said the operation was initiated in the district as part of the larger “War Against Drugs” campaign. He said 14 hotspots were identified and checked, adding that 52 suspects were checked and rounded up, nine FIRs were registered and 13 people were arrested after investigation.

The police recovered 2,978 tablets, Rs 43,500 worth of drug money, 48 injections, 4 gm heroin, 200 litre illicit liquor. He said the police as per the directions of the Chief Minister and and the Director General of Police was committed to making the historic district drug free.

The SP, meanwhile, said, “The district police have launched an aggressive campaign to eradicate the drug menace but without the cooperation of the people nothing concrete can be achieved.”

He called upon the public to share the information about anti-social elements, drug peddlers and addicts with the police.
