Patiala, January 27

The Patiala police today booked seven persons in separate incidents for obstructing the traffic in Ghagga town of the district. They were driving overloaded tractor-trailers, which obstructed the flow of traffic.

The accused were identified as Harmesh Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Bagga Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Balveer Singh, Satnam Singh, and Bira Singh, all from Sangrur district.

All the accused have been booked under section 283 of the IPC (causing danger, obstruction or injury to any person in any public way or public line of navigation).

The police informed tractor-trailers, carrying rice straw, were overloaded beyond capacity, thereby, leaving no space for other vehicles to pass by on roads causing inconvenience and danger to the lives of others.

The police said a number of accidents had been reported owing to the overloaded tractor-trailers. These vehicles themselves also overturned when they sometimes lost balance, said the police.

It is pertinent to mention that while plying on link roads, these overloaded vehicles take up the whole road space and make it difficult for other commuters to cross or overtake them.

Station House Officer (SHO), Ghagga, said the overloaded tractor-trolleys were blocking the traffic, therefore, they had been booked. He said cases have been registered and investigations were underway.
