Fatehgarh Sahib, January 27

The district-level Republic Day function was held at Government Stadium in Sirhind town on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Parneet Shergill unfurled the national flag. She, along with SSP Ravjot Grewal, took the salute from the contingents of Punjab Police, Home Guards and NCC cadets.

Schoolchildren presented a cultural show. Various departments took out tableaus showing the development of the district.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
