Fatehgarh Sahib, February 23
The District Bar Association today abstained from work and held a protest to mourn the death of Shubkaran Singh, a young farmer who died during the farmers’ protest at Khanauri Border.
President of the District Bar Association, Amardeep Singh Dharni, said everyone has the right to protest peacefully, but the way the Central and Haryana Governments have begun oppressing the farmers is condemnable. He said the Central and Haryana Governments are responsible for the young farmer’s death, who was killed due to a gunshot wound. He said that the Haryana Police fired at the farmers and threw teargas at them, which is a violation of the rights of the protestors.
SKM observes ‘black day’
Farmers of various organisations observed a ‘black day’ on the call of SKM by staging a protest in front of the DC’s office, where they burned effigies of the Haryana CM and Home Minister as well as the Union Home Minister.
The farmers said they wanted to go to Delhi and hold a peaceful protest, but the Haryana Government has blocked roads, started throwing teargas and fired gunshots, which has now caused the death of a young farmer.
