Members of Bar associations of Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Khamano, Samrala and Khanna today abstained from work and staged a dharna in front of the SSP office, over inaction in a complaint against the Amloh MLA’s brother, who allegedly assaulted and seriously injuring an advocate during the election of the Amloh Municipal Council.

They raised slogans against AAP MLA Garry Barring, his brother Mani Barring and the Amloh police. AS Dharni, president, District Bar Association, said Kamaljit Kaur, sister-in-law of advocate Hasan Singh, was the Congress candidate from Ward No. 9 and the advocate was her polling agent. They alleged that Mani Barring and his associates barged into a polling booth with the intention to capture it. When Hasan objected, Mani Barring and Suraj Kumar brandished a revolver and hit his forehead with its butt, injuring him seriously. Mani’s supporters assaulted him and made casteist remarks against him. The advocate was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Amloh.

Dharni said a complaint was lodged with the police, but they did not take any action on it, allegedly under the influence of MLA Amloh. Later, the advocates submitted a memorandum to the SSP, demanding registration of an FIR against Mani Barring and others.
