Dr HS Rekhi, Medical Superintendent, Government Rajindra Hospital, said, “It is a great loss to the fraternity. He was very sincere and hardworking.”

Asked whether the doctor was vaccinated, Dr Rekhi said he was inoculated, but it wasn’t clear if he had received both the doses.

Meanwhile, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA), GMC, Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, has appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister to waive the hospital bills of Dr Rajan and provide Rs 50 lakh financial assistance to his family. The association said the doctor was the sole  breadwinner in his family.

The daily treatment charges of the doctor were between Rs 60,000-70,000, which would be very difficult for his family to pay, added the association.
