Anaj Mandi sheds may be rented for gatherings: Punjab Mandi Board chief
Fatehgarh Sahib, March 4
The chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, Harchand Singh Barsat, said that the board has decided that residents of the area would be able to use the Anaj Mandi sheds of the state for weddings and other gatherings by paying nominal charges. He said the sheds are used twice a year for about three months when the harvested wheat, paddy, and other produce comes in, adding that for the remaining months the market committees would rent them only for Rs 25,000. Barsat said it would not only generate income for the market committees but also provide relief to the people, as they would not have to spend hefty sums on marriage halls. He also said besides this, children would also be able to use these sheds for indoor games for free.
Addressing mediapersons, he said over 33,000 saplings were planted across the state under the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Hariyawal by market committees last year.
He also lashed out at the Union Government and said Rs 5,746 crores has been withheld by the government which has affected the development of markets and repair of link roads, among other works. He said arrangements are being made by all the market committees across the state for the forthcoming season of wheat so farmers coming to sell their crop do not face any problems.
On the occasion, he planted saplings in the market committee premises.
