ASI succumbs to ‘accidental’ gunshot wound
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) residing at the Commando Training Complex in Bahadurgarh died due to a gunshot wound inflicted from his service revolver.
The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Manpreet Singh, a resident of Kundal village, near Abohar. He was on deputation at the Special Operations Group (SOG). The ASI had left his home stating he would go to his village for rest. However, instead of going to his village, he went to his quarter within the Bahadurgarh Commando Complex, where he died yesterday evening from a gunshot wound on his chest.
Manpreet Singh was the father of two daughters. His ancestral two acres of land were sold last year. It is being said that he had been suffering from mental stress. There is also speculation that he might have ended life by suicide, but the police are currently classifying it as an accidental incident. It is being stated that he may have suffered gunshot wound while cleaning his service weapon.
SHO Inspector Amritveer Singh Chahal of the Patiala Sadar police station stated that preliminary investigations indicate this incident was accidental. He said, “The police are continuing their investigation. The ASI was reportedly living alone in his quarter.”
