The residents of Bassi Pathana along with Congress workers, led by DCC President Sikandar Singh and halka incharge of the Congress Manohar Singh protested the condition of roads in the town and the increase in fuel prices. A large number of people attended the dharna. They highlighted the poor condition of roads in the town, particularly the Baba Namdev Temple road, which was the lifeline of the town. They alleged that all development works had come to a standstill, the sewer system was incomplete and there was no provision for drainage of dirty water in the city. They raised slogans against the government.

Similarly, resentment prevailed among the residents of Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib as they protested to highlight the dilapidated condition of roads in the urban as well as rural areas. Addressing mediapersons, former MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra alleged that for the last two years not even patch work had been undertaken on the roads in the areas. He said the Lincoln College road, a major road of the district that connected the GT Road with the historical gurdwars of Fatehgarh Sahib, was dug two years ago to lay a sewer line, allegedly to favour a private coloniser even though the place is scarcely populated. He demanded immediate repairs of these roads in view of the forthcoming Shaheedi Jor Mela in December, failing which he said they would stage a dharna. He alleged that at some places on the main Chandigarh-Fatehgarh Sahib road the divider was broken to make way to a private colony. He demanded a vigilance inquiry into the laying of the sewer and the breaking of the divider.

Surinder Walia, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, said the repair work would be started soon and it would be completed before the Shaheedi Jor Mela as the tender process had already begun.
