In a significant development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has summoned Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia to appear before it in Patiala on March 17, following orders from the Supreme Court. The SIT is probing a drugs case against Majithia, which dates back to an FIR registered in December 2021 under the NDPS Act.

A bench led by Justices JK Maheshwari directed Majithia to appear at the SIT headquarters in Patiala at 11 am on March 17. The bench also stated that Majithia may be required to appear again on March 18 at the same time, if needed. "The authorities may interrogate him and complete the investigation,” the bench said.

The SIT has issued a formal notice to Majithia to appear before it on the designated date.
