Patiala, July 30
Former minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia did not appear before the Special Investigation Team on the fourth consecutive occasion.
Majithia sent a response via letter explaining that coinciding of the court hearings is primarily the reason of his absence.
In the letter, Majithia stated that there are deliberate attempts to create obstacles in his pursuit of justice.
He further mentioned that whenever he has a court appearance, the Special Investigation Team deliberately sends a notice for the same day. The Akali leader highlighted that the Special Investigation Team is well aware of all the cases against him, and these cases are also mentioned in the bail application.
Majithia alleged that notices are intentionally issued for the day of his court appearances. Previously, it was sent during the hearing in the Supreme Court and now, the notice was sent while he was supposed to appear in a Chandigarh court.
The Special Investigation Team had summoned Bikram Majithia to appear on July 18 at the Police Lines, Patiala. A senior police official has confirmed the development.
The former minister and senior Akali leader has been served a notice by the Special Investigation Team to appear and explain his position in the drugs case registered against him by the state police.
Later, he was served a second summon and was asked to appear on July 20 and thereafter on 23, but on all the occasions, he could not appear citing reason that he was either preparing for a hearing or appearing for hearing.
On the other hand, one of the officials who is member of the Special Investigation Team said, “Special Investigation Team has no records of court cases pending against him. He has never informed the Special Investigation Team about his upcoming court hearings. He never objected whenever summons is delivered to him. Rather, he sent his reply at the last moment or on the day whenever Special Investigation Team fixes the date for investigation. These are baseless allegations that Special Investigation Team is preventing him from appearing before the court. He must inform the Special Investigation Team about his court hearing cases in advance and we will summon him on other day.”
