Patiala, July 23

The president of the Patiala Association of the Deaf, Jagdeep Singh, has demanded the registration of a case against cricketer-turned-politician Harbhajan Singh and a Delhi-based social media influencer for mocking children with special needs. He said they needed to be punished. In the video, former cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh were seen limping and holding their backs after their title-winning run in the recently concluded edition of the World Championship of Legends.

Harbhajan Singh issued a clarification after the cricketer and members of the side were called out by disability rights groups for mocking people with disabilities in the video.

The cricketer said the act was made in light humour to reflect their sore bodies, and they had no intention to insult or offend anyone.

Addressing mediapersons at Patiala Media Club today, Jagdeep Singh and his associates stated that they have submitted a written complaint to the DIG regarding this matter. They said they demand legal action against all the accused as per the law.

He said these were well-educated individuals who mocked children with special needs on social media. He said such people often apologise later; however, an apology was not a solution. He said it was essential to take legal action against them.

He said they have filed complaints about similar incidents in eight states, including Punjab, Maharashtra, UP, and Delhi, and have demanded legal action against all the accused. He said they were not satisfied with just an apology.

He emphasised that the accused hold significant positions in society and have a large following. He said all of their supporters should know what actions have been taken against those they follow on social media.
